Homestead Growers will be operating a CSA for the coming 2009 season!
We believe that with more and more emphasis on healthy, chemical free eating, and with the things that can go on in our food supply systems, building local relationships to source our foods is going to explode in the near future. We plan on being a part of it, and building long-term relationships with all of you. Through the efforts with our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, we can accomplish this goal.
Our CSA program consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to our farm operation so the farmland becomes the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Typically, members of the farm or garden pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food production. We grow familiar foods that you find in Grandma's garden, such as: red and yellow vine ripe tomatoes including many heirloom varieties, green beans, yellow beans, peppers of all shapes and sizes, beets, cucumbers, onions, radishes, turnips, spring and fall greens, spinach, salad mix, arugula, potatoes, eggplant, sweet corn, multiple varieties of summer squash and zucchini, lettuce, winter squash, melons, green onions, basil, and more.
Also, throughout the spring and summer, we may include fruit and berries that come from farms that we have relationships with, that grow with our same philosophy, as we have limited resources in these areas. Of course we will be including our mushrooms on a regular basis, and potentially some of our value added foods, such as mushroom or butternut squash ravioli, and our mushroom patties.
New Offering
We are excited to announce that we will be offering an additional "egg share" plan along with your vegetable shares. Our dear friends, Matt and Mandy Corry of Bloomington, will be providing their wonderful eggs to us for your enjoyment! We go through close to 2 dozen a week ourselves! They have a wonderful farm, and believe in doing things the right way. Check out their web site to see what they do.
